Description
The amnion patch graft can be rehydrated within the wound setting or prior to application using sterile saline. It can be used in the repair of dental wounds or as a barrier for dental grafting sites.
Unlike some synthetic membranes, 10x25mm SteriShield™ Advanced Resorbable Amnion Membrane has two identical sides so orientation is quick and easy. Clinicians will enjoy a simplified workflow with 10x25mm SteriShield™ Advanced Resorbable Amnion Membrane.
What is an Amniotic Patch?
SteriShield™ amniotic patches are derived from human placental tissue. This tissue protects the fetus during development and retains excellent protective properties when processed into a dental membrane.
Amniotic patches contain collagen, elastin, and growth factors to promote healing. Clinicians can use amniotic patches to protect grafting sites, allowing time for the graft to remodel and for soft tissue to reform and cover the site without interfering with the remodeling process.
Amniotic patches are allografts produced in compliance with all FDA regulations and are provided sterile.
Advantages of Amnion Patch Grafting
Amnion patch grafting has a high potential for wound management. When carrying out procedures with amnion patch grafting, the allograft material can enhance healing and prevent soft tissue intrusion. The material won’t adhere to implanted components, making it easy to work around implant posts.
Amnion patch grafting doesn’t require immediate hydration. This can improve the chairside workflow. Clinicians can apply the material to a surgical wound or grafting site and it will hydrate and conform with ease. If necessary, amnion patch grafting materials can be hydrated before application. Sterile saline is sufficient to fully hydrate the material.
The dual-layered nature of amnion patch grafting materials eliminates the need to apply the membrane with a specific orientation. Whether applied up or down from the packaging, both sides are identical.
Clinicians can use amnion patch grafting materials for bone grafting, soft tissue regeneration, and to aid in surgical wound healing. Accelerated healing has made amnion patch grafting materials popular with clinicians in the United States. The material is biocompatible, causing minimal irritation at the grafting or wound healing site.
The Benefits of VeraShield II™ Amnion Membranes
- The scientific and peer reviewed literature describe a number of benefits from the clinical use of amnion tissues, including:
- Safe, natural covering that improves normal wound healing outcomes
- Reduced inflammation
- Reduced fibrosis and scarring at the surgical site
- Decreases pain
- Provides a substrate for stem cells
Dual Layer Amnion Membranes have the following advantages
- Stores dry at room temperature Suitable for immediate use off the shelf Hydrates rapidly in wound environment
- Readily adheres to the wound surface
- Terminally sterilized with gamma radiation to SAL 10-6 in accordance with ISO 11137
- Not chemically cross-linked
- Three year shelf life
- Processed with dimpling for ease of membrane placement and handling
- Can be placed with either side in contact with the wound surface
- If not initially placed properly during surgery the membrane can either be manipulated in place or removed; when placed in water or saline, the membrane will unfold and can be re-positioned
Tissue Safety
- Collection of the donor tissue is performed in an aseptic manner by appropriately licensed tissue establishments
- Placentas are all from planned C-sections which helps to minimize the potential for contamination during recovery
- Placental donors go through a rigorous pre-screening qualification
- Placental donors are tested to confirm that they are free from disease
- Processed in accordance with the safety guidelines provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – Human Cellular and Tissue-base Products (HCT/P) (21 CFR Part 1271)
- Processed in accordance with the standards from the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB)
